Sometimes it’s hard to remember that God has forgiven my sins, again and again.
The devil is creative, pesky, and persistent. One way he uses these “qualities” is to remind me of stupid things I’ve done in the past. The embarrassment I felt comes rushing back to me. The desire to go back and do it all over again fills me with regret. In doing so, he hopes to paint me as a lost cause, unworthy of love, and doomed to failure.
But this song captures everything I need to remember about God’s infinite mercy. It reminds me how God sent his only son to live among us, teach us, and reveal the Father to us. Most of all, this song reminds me that he died for us – taking all of our sins unto himself.
Jesus came to heal sinners, raise us up and take away all of our shame. He did this because he loves us completely, totally, and perfectly. We need not hide from him. Rather we should open ourselves to him so we can experience his life-changing love.
Pray to him, talk to him, and listen to him. Learn about him through the Gospels and seek his mercy in the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
He wants us all to be forgiven.
